Call of Duty: Black Ops III Gets Beta Release Date For Xbox One And PC

After much anticipation the next iteration of CoD Black Ops will be beta testing for both Xbox One and PC from August 26th- 30th. This is a few days after the conclusion of the PS4 beta which is August 19th-23rd.

Activision has decided to partner with Sony as opposed to Microsoft for this title and moving forward. Sony had built on the relationship made during the creation of Destiny. Adam Boyes, PlayStation VP of Publisher & Developer Relations, was personally invited to come preview the game by Activision. Saying:

“We fell in love instantly,” Boyes said describing the game as “transformative” for its various new features.

“As soon as I started playing it, I said, ‘This feels incredible! You can wallride!’ It’s just so smooth; it’s almost like poetic. And so obviously, we just continued talking with our partners at Activision and worked something out. And now we’ve got I think a great benefit to all the gamers.”

At this time there is no information available as to what will be available during this beta, which players will have to preorder a physical or digital copy to gain access to.

As with other Black Ops series this will include a Zombie mode called “Shadow of Evil”. The take on this, however, is very different to the past. Touted as being the deepest form yet, the star studded cast will include Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough, Ron Perlman, and Robert Picardo. The setting is 1940s and our heroes have met under “mysterious circumstances” and wish to unravel the mysteries of the world. With other Easter Eggs have been announced to be in game, yet no details released, just to keep us guessing.

Beyond all this is something even better. Activision and and online charity donation site called Omaze have made a contest called the Call of Duty Endowment to get people to donate to help get veterans back into the work force here at home. For donations players will be drawn at random to have a chance to get their likeness in the game on some zombies as well as more chances to win prizes like a juggernaught mini fridge or even a walk-on-role on the set of a future game trailer filming if your willing to part with enough money.

The all important release date is slated for November 6th for PC, and current gen consoles. As well as PS3 and Xbox 360.

Solid State Underground 7-19-15: A Winner Is You!

update 7-19-15

We have definitely come a long way since last July. You guys are the best!!

Hello my fellow revolutionaries! This is Jon Rivera from the Solid State Gamer here to give you guys an update on what has and will be happening on the site in the near future. Before I get into all that business, I just want to thank you guys once again for checking out our written, audio and video features and offering feedback on them. We really do appreciate it! We just had our first year anniversary of the site being exhumed last year on July 13, 2015. What a year it has been! We went from getting hardly any traffic to consistently getting around twenty new folks in a day. As of today, our hits total at 5570, which is much more than we all expected. Thank you guys again for your support.

I am so stoked to get into more video work that I just might punch Matt out for the sake of it!

Our monthly traffic averages about 600+ readers, listeners and viewers. That is a big deal for us, so we have been working things out internally to figure out how all of our content will be presented in the future. We have also been investing in some more materials to work out a better method for getting video and audio productions done more quickly without sacrificing the original format and quality. I will be getting back to doing more video updates. It is just taking time to get everything set up properly. My ultimate goal is to do a Quick Look video on every game I own. Another goal is to tackle every video game prototype I have in my possession, which will not be all that easy.

jon and matt play header

As for Jon and Matt Play videos, we still need to collectively do some more hands on research before getting into recording them. Also, some stage equipment is still needed to bring back the series in a meaningful way. When we do I wish to do a video on Balloon Fight to commemorate Satoru Iwata’s life. It is because of this that I have not been playing games for review like I would like. That being said, I am still playing through Splatoon for the Wii U and am having loads of fun with it. The single player mode is not done with yet because I am getting into the finer points of the multiplayer with ranked matches and keeping up with the new updates. I cannot wait to get the review up, for there are many things I have to say about it.

channel r logo redux

In other related topics, I finally launched our radio broadcast style show called Channel R and hope you all check it out. It is basically a time block where I play retro video game music while talking a bit about the titles they belong to. Hopefully, we get some special requests for songs to play. However, I be doing a tribute to the late Satoru Iwata for the second episode. Any special requests will have to wait until the third episode, unless they come from a game that Iwata worked on.

There is a lot of stuff to be done in order to reach these goals and we will be working hard to get it done.  We appreciate your patience and thank you for your continued support. Here’s to the revolution!

Nintendo NX Launching Next Year

nintendo nx

According to sources, Nintendo has taken steps to prepare for a 2016 launch of the Nintendo NX. While there have been rumors circling around this upcoming system and its release circumstances, new information has come to light that sheds some light on specific details. This information just indicates how soon we may see the NX hit the market.

Nintendo has allegedly asked electronics manufacturing partners Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) to start pilot production on NX units as early as October, 2015. However, Pegatron Technology has also desired to assist with the manufacturing of NX consoles. Though, both companies have refused to officially comment on this information.

Earlier in March of this year, Nintendo hinted at a move to release this new platform after a one or two years. Digitimes Research indicates that the company is looking to manufacture roughly two million units by the end of 2015. In order to meet the supply quota, other electronics companies like Coxon Precise Industrial, Delta Electronics, Foxconn Technology, Macronix, PixArt Imaging, Nishoku Technology, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech are also expected to take on the task of producing the NX consoles to meet the projected demand.

How do you think this will factor into the support for the Nintendo Wii U? Be sure to let us know.

Solid State Romcast: The 7-12-15

This installment of the Romcast, the guys go over some depressing news. The Lizard Squad has struck again and the current target is John Smedley of Daybreak Games. Smedley must bow down to the ever antagonistic Zeekill. Will the Lizard Squad get served justice sooner or later? Kojima productions is no more and Jon is completely confused as to the reasoning behind giving Kojima and his team the boot. Matt and Nate also speculate on this and what this for Konami’s future. The end of the Romcast is quite saddening, as Jon prefaces the roundtable discussion by talking about the death of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. He recalls one of his first gaming memories, which would not have possible without the creativity of this man and how Earthbound may not have seen the light of day without his assistance. Matt and Nate join in later to discuss what the future of Nintendo will be moving forward. The crew’s thoughts go out to the family and friends of Satoru Iwata.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Dead At 55

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata holding a Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo has announced in a press release that its president, Satoru Iwata, has passed away from a bile duct growth on July 11, 2015; he was only 55 years old. It was known that Iwata had been dealing with health related issues and is one of the reasons why he was not present at E3 during 2014 and 2015. He had undergone surgery to remove the growth sometime before this year’s E3.

Satoru Iwata was much more than simply the company president who took on the position during 2000. He was a talented programmer and developer, who worked on the likes of the Kirby series, The legend of Zelda and Balloon Fight. He, along with the team of HAL Laboratory, helped to finish the troubled development of the unique role playing game Earthbound. As Nintendo’s president, he led the company through two entire generations of hardware, with the Wii being a financial success. Even with the recent poor sales of the company’s eighth generation console, Satoru had fought to maintain commercial relevance. Iwata took responsibiliy for the poor sales of the Wii U cut his salary by half as an apologetic gesture. As a developer and a leader, he has made an indelible mark on the video game industry and he will be missed.

Iwata’s untimely passing has sent shock waves rippling throughout throughout the industry and is felt by developers and gamers alike. Shigeru Miyamoto, one of Nintendo’s creative directors, has expressed his feelings on the president’s death and assured the community that Nintnedo’s devlopment efforts will ensue as originally intended.

I am surprised at this sudden news and overcome with sadness.

The entire development team at Nintendo will remain committed to our development policy which Mr. Iwata and we have been constructing together and to yield the development results which Mr. Iwata would appreciate.  ~Shigeru Miyamoto (Creative Director, Nintendo)

Satoru Shibata, President of Nintendo Europe, Has also expressed his sentiments on Iwata’s passing, while reassuring everyone that Nintendo will continue to press on in terms of development, as Iwata would have desired.

It is difficult to put into words the sadness we feel at this time. Mr. Iwata was a strong leader, a unique figure in the gaming industry and an important part of  Nintendo’s history. He was a visionary in every sense of the word and we will miss him dearly.

Just as Mr. Iwata challenged us to always push forward, we will ensure his legacy lives on through our ongoing work to always surprise and delight our fans. At this time our thoughts are with his family  ~Satoru Shibata (President, Nintendo of Europe)

Hopefully Nintendo can recover from this huge loss and may continue to do what it does well. On behalf of the Solid State Gamer, our thoughts and hearts go out to everyone saddened by Satoru Iawata’s untimely death – Family, friends, and the gaming community as a whole.

Solid State Romcast: The 7-5-15 Show

This latest Romcast starts off with an updated damage report on Batman: Arkham Knight PC’s reconstruction. Jon, Matt and Nate weigh in on the possibility that there may nothing that can be done to fix the bad karma generated from this botched port. Matt then covers an updated to the controversy surrounding the farce of a Humble Bundle associated with Wargaming’s latest title World of Warships. The company has recanted for its misstep in not giving buyers of the bundle what they were originally promised. Is this enough to repair bad will invoked by an attempted case of fraud. PC gamers never forget… ever. Moving on from the Humble Bundle fiasco, the bad dudes mull over some nuggets of information that suggests that a sequel to The Last of Us could be in the works. Speculation abounds as the guys dissect these fragments for all they are worth. The show concludes with a discussion on the notion of a standard for computer games and console games, revealing examples of companies that tried to create such a thing. Will there be a future where console gamers will only have to buy one machine to play their games or is this an unrealistic idea? Let us know what you think!

Lizard Squad Strikes Again

After John Smedley lashed out at a Lizard Squad member for his conviction on over 50,000 counts of hacking, credit card fraud, and SWATting. Smedley’s works H1Z1 and PlanteSide 2 were seriously DDoS’d. Shortly after these events Lizard Squad made a series of posts on their Twitter account claiming responsibility and even going a bit farther.

Getting reports that the attack is affecting all Daybreak Game Company games. Hope you like our present John Smedley (the CEO). -July 9

H1Z1  -July 9

The only way we’ll forever hold our peace with John Smedley is if he travels to Krasnodar and bows down to zeekill. -July 10

John has acknowledged this issue and taken to Reddit to continue to express his disgust and disdane over the Finish Court’s ruling to give him a suspended sentence of only 2 years as well as the laundry list of acts committed against Smedley himself and his family.

“Now that he’s a convicted felon, he can’t claim first time status anymore,” Smedley said. “There’s no question he’s going to get his.”

As of writing this on J_Smedley Twitter posted that almost right after the servers went up another DDoS attack is hitting again, and not the first time today (June 10).

Exec Producer And Senior Producer Leaves Star Citizen’s Ranks

Star Citizen, a highly anticipated and heavily crowdfunded game being developed by Cloud Imperium Games, has just lost a key team member in Executive Producer Alex Mayberry. Mayberry was the one responsible for all of the development for the game and his leaving came only a week after fans were disappointed from hearing the FPS mode was put on hold indefinitely with no indication of release or development processes to come. Erin Roberts who is the Global head of Production will be assuming many of his responsibilities.

It has been reported to Game Informer that Alex left for “personal reasons”. The company representative went on to say “We were sorry that Alex had to leave the CIG family,”; continuing to say “No impact at all on development. In fact, it’s full steam ahead for us”.

Before CIG Alex was at Blizzard Entertainment working on World of Warcraft for 10 years and the Diablo Franchise. After being invited by Chris Roberts, the creator of Star Citizen, to see just what he was up to he felt as though he had to be a part of this idea and exited Blizzard.

Also leaving right after Alex was Travis Day who was a Senior Producer, who is set to begin work for Blizzard.

CIG’s own developer Ben Lesnick saying on the forums:

Travis is going to work for Blizzard, which is a dream job for him. We’re terribly sad to lose him, but also incredibly happy for because he’s doing something he always wanted to do. Having somehow wound up with my dream job personally, I know what a big, exciting deal this is for him. I’m sure there’s a German word that expresses exactly what that emotion is. 🙂

CIG now has a crew of 21 and is expanding greatly this year, more than doubling that number to 50. Here are the positions they are looking to fill in their office looking mostly for artists.

In a game as enormous and ambitious as this there are inevitably going to be some bumps and hiccups. However that hasn’t stopped many fans losing some of their good spirits from this and other recent happenings in Star Citizen’s realm. The game is still able to progress mostly as normal. Naturally, the potions that need the FPS segment called Star Marine will be held up since it was expected to be released for beta testing 2 months ago.

What will the longer term effects of this be? Do you feel like this could cause development and eventually release date problems for CIG? Tell us you thoughts!

Solid State Romcast: The 6-27-15 Show

This time around on the Romcast, Batman: Arkham Knight for PC has launched broken and fallout has ensued. Several teams are pitching in to fix this buggy and unstable mess, but is it too late to repair the loss in consumer confidence? Jon, Matt and Nate speculate on this and then move on to commend Nintendo on selling over one million copies of Splatoon. Is this enough to save the Wii U, or will they push even harder for the upcoming NX? Lastly, Matt rages over a botched Humble Bundle in association with Wargaming. Enjoy!
