Bungie To Bethesda: Fallout And Elder Scrolls Bound

Josh Hamrick, the Senior Gameplay Designer for Destiny, has announced he will be leaving Bungie and move to rival Bethesda Studios. All this has been announced on his Twitter page. Including showing great appreciation for Bungie and how he has enjoyed his time there.

Again, I need to say how much the team means to me. I’ve learned so much from them and made tons of lifelong friends during my stay.

With a resume filled with those on Joshs’ including Halo: Reach, Destiny, and BlackSite: Area 51 he would be right at home working on Fallout.

No title has been announced for his new position, as well as no comment on the project he will begin on.

However Bethesda will, for the first time, hold their own press conference at E3 this year. With a big name move and so much to look forward to in the next couple years from rumors we hear about Bethesda including FallOut 4, the next Elder Scrolls, and possibly another Doom. These next 3 months will pass by slowly for a lot of gamers.

Half Life: 2 Sees New Life

In 2004 we saw the release of Half Life: 2 from Valve Corporation, this appears near the peak constantly on top games of all time lists. Now a fan by the name of Filip Victor has announced and is about to release an enormous graphics update that will not only enhance the beauty, but even get rid of the known bugs that the community has found over the last 10 years.

In the update trailer that has been released we see enhance water effects detail, shadow, world detail, particle effects, and updated fog. As this can only enable a deeper level of immersion, the community has been eagerly waiting this release, which will be free of charge.

As stated in his own brochure giving details and speaking of the game engine, the original Source engine,

The goal of Half-Life 2: Update is to fix up, polish, and visually enhance Half-Life 2, without ever changing the 2004 original’s core gameplay, or time-tested style.

Even adding in community commentary, something Valve has done since Half Life: 2 Lost Coast but with those who developed the games, featuring Zachary Howlett and others in the HL community. This, as of yet, has 100 different nodes many spoken by big name YouTubers such as Caddicarus, Brutalmoose, Rice Pirate, ProJared, and Balrog the Master. Explicitly stating more are to come.

All of this is available tomorrow, March 27th, around 2pm EST.

Nintendo’s Mysterious “NX” Is Set To Surprise

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata spoke rather briefly of the company’s ongoing project codenamed “NX”. He believes this new platform, with as of yet unknown specifications, will change the way people play games. Saying:

“If you only expand upon existing hardware, it’s dull. In some shape or form, we’re always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person’s video gaming life.”

No one outside of Nintendo can say exactly where this may go. We can only wait and imagine what this could mean for the future of not only Nintendo gaming, but game systems in general. Satoru did ensure to the gaming public that this ‘gaming platform’ will demonstrate their dedication to business.

“As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename ‘NX,'”

Solid State Romcast: The 3-14-15

On this edition of the Lex Vice, Juan Flores gets a tip from a young lady that may lead to the bust of a man responsible for five cases of swatting… For this latest installment of the Romcast, Jon and Matt talk some Creative Assembly and the deal with its latest job listings. They assume it has a lot to do with Alien: Isolation and speculate further.

Changing gears, the two guys, sans burgers and fries, talk about want they want to see in a sequel to Titanfall: The Reckoning Unchained. On the table for discussion is the subject of retail release treatments on video games. How does this model work and why is it still important in this new digital age? What does DLC mean today and what should it mean?

Release Details Available For The Next Star Wars: Battlefront

As released today via an EA Star Wars official Twitter page Star Wars: Battlefront will be released late this year during the holiday season. Those who aren’t either on the current-gen consoles or PCs will be at a loss as the Xbox 360 and PS3 will yet again see another big title pass them over. The announcement of platforms appears to have been made as a response to an apparent fan who quite simply asked politely.

With few details available right now, we are sure to learn more in the coming weeks as this is now explicitly the reason EA is attending Star Wars Celebrations in Anaheim, California. With their big name studios under EA working on this title, DICE the creators of Battlefield and Visceral Games the creators of Dead Space, fans surely will have a lot to look forward to between now and April 19 when the Celebration wraps up. Including rumors that this could be an open-world setup.

If you haven’t seen the official trailer released at 2014 E3 it can be seen here.

EA Sports Brings In Rory McIlroy After Tiger Sees Himself To The Door

Electronic Arts, long time developer for the successful PGA Tour series of games, has announced that they have found a replacement for the Tiger Woods namesake, the current World #1 Rory McIlroy. EA has said he is now not only on the cover of the game, but will also be the namesake. The first iteration to bear his name will be released in June of this year for the current generation of consoles.

Saying of these developments:

“I grew up idolizing the best golfers in the world, and now I’m one of them. One of the ways I idolized them was in video games. Playing video games is one of the ways I try to relax in my downtime, and one of my favorite video games was golf. That’s what makes today’s announcement so exciting to me. I am on the cover of EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR and it’s named after me. That is crazy! I am more excited than I can possibly put into words.”

Not only does EA have a new face for a new generation of consoles but, the tagline has been refreshed as well. “Golf without limits”. This is more than simply mixing it up, it refers not only to the sport and how it’s represented, it alludes to the fact that players now won’t have to wait for the loading screens between holes. This is a first for any golf game of this type. Players who have followed the franchise will be more than familiar and loathe these waits.

This is all courtesy of the new engine that is in use. Named Frostbite 3, it also runs the Battlefield and Need for Speed series’. With the ability to load all of the very large maps of Battlefield the courses are now set to be treated the same way, and of course, more beautifully detailed.

Moreover, not to be set with just the new engine and face for the franchise, there will be a more… interesting side this time. There will be featured jets, explosions, and even warships.
